Was there a moment you nearly gave it up? What kept you training? A grading, a fight, a competition, an injury or a failure that changed you. What has asked of you that nothing else in life has?

What it really is

After all these years, what is really for? What does mastery in your art actually mean to you, beyond the rank or the belt? Something you believe about the art that others might disagree with.

Teaching

Why do you teach? What do you want every student to carry away, even the ones who never come back? The mistake you see students make again and again. A student who changed the way you teach. How do you teach a nervous child differently from a grown adult?

Wisdom to pass on

This is the part your students will read one day.

If just one lesson of yours had to outlive you, what would it be? What would you say to a nervous beginner on their very first night? What would you tell someone about to teach their first ever class? On discipline, respect and effort, what do you think people today get wrong?
